As a new addition to the list of top donors, Bankman-Fried is arguably the most controversial financial contributor on this list as he is currently in a lot of hot water regarding the collapse of his crypto exchange company FTX, of which he is (was) the founder and CEO. But before he lost his fortune, his net worth was estimated to have dropped 94% in a day, he did spend a lot of it on Democratic candidates.
He had already made a name for himself as a donor when he became the second-largest individual donor to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, personally donating $5.2 million. In this cycle, he give $28 million to a super PAC backed by Democrats facing progressives in primaries that focused on preventing the next pandemic called the Protect Our Future PAC. Unfortunately for the Democratic party, he won’t be donating anything in 2024 as he just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
