Political donors have been in American elections all the way back to the days when Andrew Jackson made his bid for the White House in 1828. Although wealthy citizens have always had a vested interest in who sits in the Oval Office, they also care about those who are on the lower rungs of the political ladder in the United States. The 2022 midterm election cycle is no different.

According to the research group OpenSecrets, the money pouring into federal election spending has gone up by a whopping $2 billion compared to 2018. In addition, the campaign finance data they looked at showed that 10 wealthy individuals poured a staggering $540 million combined into this year’s elections, handing over large sums to super PACs who then spend it on election ads in support of their candidate of choice.
