While the Republicans desperately want to secure Ohio, the Democrats have their eyes firmly fixed on securing the Senate seat in Wisconsin as it is widely considered to be one of the most competitive and could likely decide who gains control of the U.S. Senate. Democratic hopes have been laid at the feet of the current 45th lieutenant governor of Wisconsin, Mandela Barnes, the first African American to hold that position.

Democratic party strategists see this seat as a key battleground as the incumbent Senator Ron Johnson who had promised to retire as a lawmaker after his second term did a U-turn and decided to run again. This is political gold for the Democrats
as the controversial Senator has consistently pushed fringe theories about COVID-19 and the subsequent vaccines, voted against certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, and downplayed the events of January 6.
