9. Trump Tried To Weaponize The Justice Department

In testimony featured in the second hearing, Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr made it clear that the former President had been told on numerous occasions that there was absolutely no evidence that the election was stolen from him and to suggest otherwise was ‘ludicrous.’ Despite the President’s top lawyer insisting it was a fair and free election, this mattered little to Trump as he would try to weaponize the Justice Department to get as many allies to buy into his false claim.

We are now learning from the fifth hearing that after Barr resigned, it left a vacuum at the Justice Department and the remaining leaders there considered resigning on mass after Trump tried to get the environmental lawyer Jeffrey Clark to aide him in getting federal law enforcement on his side. Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Meadows aide, testified that Rep. Scott Perry, the Pennsylvania Republican, pushed to have Clark head the Department of Justice in order to help overturn the 2020 election.
