3. US Justice Department
In tandem with the January 6 House select committee, the Justice Department has its own investigation into the role of the former president in the efforts to stop the certification of the election and overturn its results. While Merrick Garland continues to keep his cards firmly pressed against his chest, the recent moves to compel former White House counsel Pat Cipollone and deputy White House counsel Patrick Philbin to testify is an indicator that this is far from over.
The addition Jack Smith, a former war crimes prosecutor and by all accounts someone who is very serious about serving justice on anyone who breaks the law regardless of whether they were the former president or not, have many people expecting some very bad legal news for Trump to be just around the corner.
