8. E. Jean Carroll’s Defamation Suit
Ex-magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll sued Trump for defamation back in 2019 when he denied allegedly raping Carroll in the dressing room of a New York department store in the mid-1990s, claiming he never met Carroll, that she wasn’t his type, and she was only doing this to promote her new book ‘What Do We Need Men For?: A Modest Proposal.’
While that case has been ongoing, a recent New York law that allows adults alleging sexual assault to bring claims years after the attack has allowed Carroll to add a second lawsuit against Trump for battery and defamation based on similar statements Trump made last month on his Truth Social platform. A decision in this case is likely to be made in early 2023.
