2. The January 6 House Select Committee
With Republicans set to take over the House of Representatives, the January 6 House select committee will be looking to shift their investigations into the former president’s role in the Capitol riots into overdrive. Through interviewing members of the Trump administration, they have already uncovered troubling evidence of Trump’s actions before and on January 6 and his efforts to overturn the election in order to cling on to power.
Although the congressional committee, consisting of seven Democrats and two Republicans, does not have the power to prosecute Mr. Trump, they do have the power to make a criminal referral recommending that the justice department charge Mr. Trump.
