6 Political Myths People Still Believe

The only way to elect representatives is through democracy

As democracy is good in electing representatives, it is not the only way, and depending on your views, other methods might be better. In ancient Athens, most significant posts were filled by drawing lots instead of voting. This method eliminates voting for only the influential and wealthy ones who have money to do campaigns.

This practice of random selection by lots is still practiced to select juries. Random selection ratifies Aristotle’s submission that from a point of view, governors and governed are identical. So the myth that democracy is the only way to have people represented is false.

However, people still believe this, and it was echoed by American political sociologist Larry Diamond who defined democracy in 2004 as the political platform to choose and replace representatives through free and fair elections.

    1. Yes ! Democracy is lie we have taught to believe. “One nation under God & to the REPUBLC for which it stands”

  1. Another un-educated ,left leaning
    tool of anti-American bias.
Do some REAL research and find the reason why the Founders created the electoral college.
It was to insure that under represented states got an EQUAL vote; the people who feed this country, the farmers and ranchers who don’t live in the festering cities
    that breed corruption.
I guarantee the person who wrote this article is neither.

Our founding fathers thought of Democracy as the worst form of government, largely because they read the classics, often in their original Greek or Latin. That is why they created a Republic, and why we avoided the Reign of Terror that they had in “democratic” revolutionary France.

  3. The United States has never been a democracy. A pure democracy cannot function on a large population and has no protection for individual rights. It is an ancient idea. The United States idea is limited government where rights are natural and begin with the individual.

The statement about the Electoral College is incorrect. It balances the need for popular representation with statehood representation. Remember, this country is a republic of sovereign states, with the Federal Government given only the powers enumerated in the Constitution. Read the 10th Amendment.

  6. Correct that Christopher Columbus did not discover America. He was trying to find a new way to China for a new Spice trade, and invigorated a new Renosance of Discovery leading to many of the European Atrocities that occurred, but without him, the ideals and the land of the Americas would never have been found. Stating the Vikings found America, is not why Columbus is important, because he found the European expansion and imperialism that help find the American countries formed today. The Vikings were only trying to find new lands to conqueror and settle do to the constant embattlement that were occurring because of the the Norse Conquests, and was headed for glory and honor. Similarly Columbus, and Italian of lower birth went to Spain, which wanted some of the wealth that the Italians were drawing on from the Great Silk trade started by Marko Polo, sponsored for gold, and glory of God and helped Spain. You can state one, but not without the fact of the other.

  7. So most Democrats supported manifest destiny? Didn’t Lincoln free the slaves? Weren’t about 70% of the Southern plantation owners Democrats, as well as slave owners? The myths would have been easier to digest if they had come from a more centrist point of view..

  8. So you removed my comment: How many suns are there in the galaxy where you live? Really, is that cosidered hate speech? Did I use anything that might incite violence? See you communists later!

  9. the Constitution, Magna Carta, Bill of Rights, Mayflower compact, Declaration of independence, Articles of confederation, can be found in the back of Many, Bibles, also for those interested, the Federalist papers, and the Goodnight letters and courses on the same can be found at Liberty university, Along with many Other courses,…. the Goodnight letters provide the examples of why our constitution is so great,…. And also why The district of Columbia should never be a state,…. also why the electoral college is MOST important for an free and fair vote.
Ie: most would not want to live In a society controlled by the Elitists of both coasts who tend to be Communist/Socialist clerical workers, while the Producers/Growers, and the Energy tend to be in the heartland, and tend to be more sparsely populated

  10. I am sure this research is what is now taught in our schools. Any thinking person knows all of the faults or our country. I am also sure the majority understand the benefits of living in a democratic “Republic”, as opposed to any other form of government in the world, both in the past or present. Our Constitution was formed and written over several years, not by “mob rule”. The danger to our Nation is teaching the next generation of only the faults of our Nation as well as the mentality of Entitlement and Dependency upon the government which will result in the Tyranny of the government.
