6 Political Myths People Still Believe

Manifest destiny

Manifest destiny is a cultural belief very popular among people in the 19t century. This belief is that it is the destiny of American settlers to expand across North America.

The three themes of manifest destiny are the special virtues of the American people and their institutions, an alluring destiny to succeed on their essential duties, and also the mission of the United States to remake the West in the image of the pastoral East.

However, contemporary historiography believed that this myth is an ideology of Americans to justify their genocide against native Americans. Even Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Most Whigs, and other prominent Americans rejected this concept, which democrats mostly endorsed.

Conclusion

Many political myths are still in existence today, even when they are false, but they are well-presented to give a true account of the past, present, or future political events.

  1. Another un-educated ,left leaning
    tool of anti-American bias.
Do some REAL research and find the reason why the Founders created the electoral college.
It was to insure that under represented states got an EQUAL vote; the people who feed this country, the farmers and ranchers who don’t live in the festering cities
    that breed corruption.
I guarantee the person who wrote this article is neither.

Our founding fathers thought of Democracy as the worst form of government, largely because they read the classics, often in their original Greek or Latin. That is why they created a Republic, and why we avoided the Reign of Terror that they had in “democratic” revolutionary France.

  3. The United States has never been a democracy. A pure democracy cannot function on a large population and has no protection for individual rights. It is an ancient idea. The United States idea is limited government where rights are natural and begin with the individual.
