As she stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and delivered an impassioned speech for the last time, Rep. Liz Cheney was ousted from her seat as the House Republican Conference chair on May 11, 2021.

The knives were quickly out for the Wyoming lawmaker for openly criticizing her party for not standing up to Mr Trump’s false claims to have won the 2020 election, with the top two House Republicans wanting her replaced with a Trump loyalist, Rep. Elise Stefanik.

In her House speech, she said plainly that “those who refuse to accept the rulings of our courts, are at war with the Constitution,” and followed that with a damning indictment of those who continue to perpetuate the false narrative of a stolen 2020 election, saying, “remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar.”

Cheney has long been a vocal critic of the former president and his antics and has consistently held a position of defiance while many of her colleagues have hitched their wagon to the Trump train.
