Opal “Mack Truck” Long

She is believed to have been born in Texas. The nickname “Mack Truck” came from her size, even if no one ever had the courage to call her that to her face.

She was a member of John Dillinger’s Terror Gang, as she was brought in as the wife of Russell Clark. She used to clean their hideouts and cook for the whole gang, who she always considered to be her family.

When her husband got arrested in Tucson, Arizona, on January 25, 1934, things soured. She attacked the police who arrested her husband and later begged Dillinger to give her money to appeal Clark’s case. Her demands got her out of the group. And the following summer, she got arrested.

    1. Great reading and a touch of our history. Even in high school I enjoyed reading about the things and people that live during that period of life. Thanks very much.
