The first Titanic movie premiered only a month after the disaster
While we’re are acquainted with 1997’s version of “Titanic”, and the 1958 film “A Night to Remember”, none of these were the first movies ever made about the ship. The first movie was released on May 14, 1912, exactly one month after the Titanic hit the iceberg.
It was a silent film called “Saved from the Titanic”, where Dorothy Gibson, who was actually a real survivor, starred. As the Los Angeles Times has stated, she chose to wear the same clothes in the film that she was wearing on a fateful night: a white dress, long sweater, gloves, and black pumps.
