Congolese President Patrice Lumumba’s assassination in 1961

Lumumba was assassinated by a POLICE UNIT that was under the orders of a Belgium officer. His assassination happened seven months after Congo gained its independence. As NBC News reported back then, his killing was the cause of a widening chasm in the US and African relations. The CIA had been involved, as they later found out.

Lumumba has become an icon for many African nationalists, and a reminder of Western “treachery”, according to the Irish Times.

African American leader Malcolm X’s assassination in 1965

Malcolm X was, without a doubt, an extremely controversial religious and civil rights leader. He was shot dead by some of the members of the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam was a religious group that he once lead. However, he decided to break away and start his own group, known as the Organization of Afro-American Unity.

  1. To start with , you might want to address the glowing error with the date of President Lincoln’s assassination. The year was 1865, NOT 1965!!! Ooooops!!!

  2. That’s odd, I was 14 years old in 1965 but I don’t remember the Lincoln assassination. Also Obama didn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
