Hold up court vacancies: We shouldn’t expect any vacancies on the Supreme Court in the future, but who knows, anything can happen! If one of those seats will open up, the top Senate Republican, Mitch McConnell, showed how capable he is of a ruthless ability to hold it open until the moment a Republican president will win the elections.

Even more, a Republican Senate would only slow down or block most of Biden’s choices regarding federal judges.

A national abortion ban: Senator Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) left everyone in complete shock when he declared that the new legislation bans abortion all over the country after 15 weeks. Senate Republican leaders instantly distanced themselves from the prospect.

However, if the party will get both chambers of Congress for the very first time since Roe fell, there might be even a stronger push to at least bring the ban up for voting.

If democrats keep both chambers: This is a rather unlikely scenario. The party in power always historically lost seats in Congress during midterms, and Democrats might afford to lose only a couple of House seats, let alone only ONE Senate seat.

Besides that, redistricting and concentrating on cities (as Democrats do) will only put the given party at a greater structural disadvantage to maintain the House. However, if they get their dream election and end up with this scenario, what they will decide to do with such power will solely depend on the strength of the Senate majority.

Take another decision regarding liberal priorities: Democrats would have the opportunity to pass national protections for matters like abortion, same-s*x marriage, and other voting rights. They might also pick up all the pieces left of Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, focusing on climate policies and expanding the government safety net.

If they will get the great election they want and manage to expand their majority in the Senate by only two seats (it might be difficult, but not impossible), Democrats would get enough votes to break through a filibuster and do what they planned to, as they won’t depend on the votes of Sens. Joe Manchin III (W.Va.), and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) to end the filibuster.

However, if the majority remains 50-50 or even 51-49, it will only be some sort of deja vu feeling for Democrats and Biden altogether.
