If the Republicans take the House, and the Democrats keep the Senate
One of the outcomes that might happen is that Congress might end up being split between these two parties, with Republicans ruling the House, and the Democrats holding on to their Senate majority.
As partisanship got so intense these days, it seems a bit unlikely that any important legislation will get passed. However, there are still a ton of investigations and political moves that would keep both these parties busy for a while.
What would Republicans do in a GOP House?
They would disband the January 6 committee: All House Republican leaders showed no interest whatsoever in investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. Well, that’s “surprising”!
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) completely ignored a subpoena that was sent by the committee, that asked him to testify on his conversations with Trump that day.
Instead, he preferred to threaten to investigate all the telecom companies that showed phone records to the committee, when the Republicans win again.
Other House Republicans already have a proper plan on how to launch investigations against the famous January 6 committee members themselves.
They will investigate Hunter Biden: You probably know so well how many potential storylines are there related to the president’s son that would animate the right. In theory, he did many things: he apparently left a laptop in a Delaware shop before the 2020 elections.
Well, it seems that laptop ended up in the hands of Trump’s allies. Out of all the info that was apparently on that laptop, The Washington Post managed to find suggestions that he might have profited from his name and connections, such as the dealings he has with a Chinese energy company; even though his father did not).
Obviously, Republicans would get a boost for a long-running federal investigation focused on Hunter Biden, and whether or not he committed a tax fraud and lied to the authorities in order to pass a background check and buy a gun.
Federal agents think there would be enough evidence to charge him, as the Post’s Devlin Barrett and Perry Stein reported. But didn’t Republicans promise to return to the matter with brand new congressional investigatory powers if they win the majority?
Yes, they did. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a strong Trump defender, might be in such a leadership position to launch some of these investigations.
