1. Presidential Approval/Disapproval
When Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States in January 2021, the challenges he faced as he raised his right hand were unprecedented as the nation (and the wider world) was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic catastrophe that saw inflation soaring to terrifying heights.
He did see a slight boost in his numbers but that was quickly stymied by the disastrous, chaotic, and much-criticized withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, an event that saw his ratings drop to the sort of negative levels few first-term presidents have suffered. By the summer of this year, his numbers sat at 37% public approval and 57% disapproval.
Voters have warmed to him more in recent months but his current rating stands at 38%, which is identical to his predecessor’s approval rating at a similar point in his presidency.
