Trump and ISIS
Trump credited himself for the liberation of ISIS’s “caliphate” in Syria, adding that “the vicious ISIS caliphate, which no president was actually able to conquer, was decimated by me and our warriors in less than three weeks.”
As you might have already guessed, this is a major exaggeration. The ISIS “caliphate” was officially declared liberated more than two years into his presidency, in 2019, not “less than three weeks” into his term.
While we’re still not convinced what he meant by “decimated”, the fight kept on going long after Trump’s first weeks in office. Also, Trump gave himself way too much credit for the defeat of the caliphate, as it was already a lot of progress against the caliphate under Obama in 2015 and 2016, anyway. Besides that, Kurdish forces did the most ground fighting.
Terrorism under Trump
Trump declared that “we had practically no Islamic attacks, terrorist attacks, during my administration.” This isn’t true at all. Trump’s Justice Department announced that a terror attack occurred in New York City in 2017, killing eight people and injuring many others. It was SEEN as an act of Islamic extremism which was carried out for ISIS. As a matter of fact, Trump lamented many times regarding this attack during his term.
The military’s use of old bombers
He also didn’t lose the chance of boasting about how he allegedly rebuilt the military. As he declared: “when I got there, we had jet fighters that were 48 years old. We had bombers that were more than 60 years old, we had bombers that grandparents flew when they were new.
Now the grandchild is flying the bomber- but not anymore.” In reality, it’s not actually true that Trump ended the use of any 60-year-old bomber. The military still uses B-52 bombers that are old, they are now being outfitted with new Rolls-Royce engines, in order to prolong their life even further.
