The debt and the deficit
Biden also added: “You probably heard Republicans say: ‘My God, POTUS is a big-spending Democrat. He’s taken us in debt.’ Well, I reduced the federal deficit this year by $1 trillion $400 billion. One trillion 400 billion dollars, which is the most in all American history.
No one managed to reduce debt this much. We managed to cut the federal debt in half.” The problem is that there are two big inaccuracies here. The first of them is that POTUS decided to conflate the debt and the deficit, which are two separate things.
It’s also not true that Biden “cut the federal debt in half”, as the federal debt has kept on rising under Biden. In fact, it exceeded $31 trillion for the first time in October. What was really “cut in half” was the federal deficit, which is the annual difference between spending and revenue. And yes, it was reduced between fiscal 2021 and fiscal 2022.
The unemployment rate
Biden also declared at the same Florida rally that “unemployment is now down from 6.5 to 3.5%, which is the lowest in 50 years.” Then he went to the New Mexico rally and said the same thing. However, Biden didn’t factor in that September’s 3.5% unemployment rate was, in fact, nothing but a TIE for the lowest in 50 years.
And it gets better: it’s a tie with three months of Trump’s administration. Naturally, since Biden decided to use these speeches to put him in a favorable light compared to Trump, the omission was key.
Biden’s student debt policy
During an on-camera talk organized by the progressive organization NowThis News, Biden told some young activists that they should know already that he signed a law on student debt forgiveness that’s being challenged by Republicans.
He also mentioned that the law was passed by a vote or two. However, what he said was inaccurate. He made his student debt forgiveness initiative by using executive action, not through legislation.
So in reality, he didn’t sign a law and didn’t get anything passed by any margin. It’s true that the Republicans opposed the initiative, including those who decided to challenge the initiative in court. There’s a big difference between a law and an executive action.

Wow. I still want to see Biden take a brain MRI for dementia and/or Alzeimer’s. I just had a brain MRI for a problem and I am 71 and the doctor found NO indications of dementia or Alzeimer’s. I also took a battery of neuropsychology tests and I was “cognitively intact”. I bet Biden couldn’t pass either. His medical condition needs to be clarified. Personally, I am scared to death that he has control of the nuclear football or maybe those around him do. How many physical indications of something very wrong before someone( Supreme Court?) steps in and DEMANDS this testing.
