Criminal-justice reform

Out of the 2.1 million incarcerated people in the United States, fewer than 10 percent are completely held in the federal prison system. Even so, federal prisons play rather a disproportionately big role in prison policy.

They usually set trends that states are following and suggest standards for states so they can emulate them. Well, the Trump administration’s First Step prison reform proposals were cautious, but still humane. Mandatory minimum sentences will be completely reduced for some kinds of drug offenses.

Prisoners will qualify more easily for early release, while also being closer to their homes. Women in prison are now bound to receive sanitary products free of cost, which will be helpful to the end of economic exploitation of prisoners, who are often times overcharged for basic necessities.

Probably the most important benefit of Trump’s First Step program is to offer a political cover to states, so they can embark on their own reforms. If the “tough on crime” Trump administration is able to endorse lighter sentences and free tampons, so can conservatively state politicians.

  1. President Trump is the best president this country has ever had and I thank God for choosing him to do what seemed impossible! My family prospered more under President Trump than we ever had under any other President or official. My family not only prospered financially but we have learned some extremely valuable truths/lessons that have helped prosper us in other ways that have enriched our family. He exposed truth that otherwise would have have trapped and enslaved us to corrupt institutions and taught all of us how to be a free people. President Trump may God bless you and yours for eternity!

  2. I’m sure “The Captain” knows who actually proposed these initiatives in Congress, or whether or not they were Executive Orders. The fact that Trump signed them is good. His Administration did perform some reasonable acts , mostly overshadowed by an unreasonable tone and attitude toward Democracy, and a phony discourse of their concern for Veterans and the working class. Therefore, he was righteously defeated in his bid for re-election , and is now just basically and anti-government bearer of potentially traitoress aspirations and attitudes.
