Musk would begin his ‘neo-Twitter’ by revealing his plans to revamp Twitter’s verification system by charging users to pay to remain verified. He floated plans to charge users $20 a month for the privilege of paying for a service that has always been free. His plan was quickly rebuked, most notably by horror legend Stephen King whose expletive tinged reply threatening to abandon the site if that policy were instituted went viral. Musk replied, like the genius businessman he is, by immediately dropping the price to $8.
This would just be the beginning of Mr. Musk’s woes as the user base of Twitter began revolting about his revolting proposal, with many users furiously posting that they intend to leave the site. While his acquisition of Twitter was lauded by libertarians and right-leaning pundits, within 48 hours of taking over, Musk would get out his favorite golden shovel and start digging massive holes for himself.
