Former President Donald Trump was already facing a myriad of criminal investigations into his role in the January 6 Capitol riots and his attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election of Joe Biden and his mishandling of classified documents at his private residence at Mar-a-Lago. But things just got much more serious for the former commander-in-chief as Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that he would be appointing a special counsel to oversee these criminal investigations.
Garland’s announcement comes days after Trump declared his candidacy in the 2024 presidential race and as you might expect, Trump is unsurprisingly not taking this appointment well. Using his social media platform Truth Social, the 2024 presidential candidate has repeatedly posted rambling rants that go through his greatest hits of persecution by once again claiming any investigations into him are all politically motivated, a hoax, a witch hunt and claiming he was the victim of a “weaponization” of the justice system.
