Republicans are expected to make a spectacle in the House
Drama in the House is expected any moment now, as the 2024 presidential election is coming. Even so, the House GOP will still have the power to hold high-profile investigations, which include the president’s son, Hunter, and maybe even impeach some members of the Biden administration (even if that won’t have any power in the Democratic Senate).
This might be the start of a new era of the Democratic power
As Democrats lost and were even relegated to the minority in the House for the next two years, well-known House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi decided to step aside. You might be wondering what this means.
Along with her leave, there will be a new wave of younger Democratic leaders (but this doesn’t mean that Pelosi’s incredible work as a Democratic leader should be undervalued) Even if she had some sort of mythological “Dems in disarray” narrative, Nancy Pelosi remained remarkably consistent throughout her 20 years of work.
While she worked in the office, Republican speakers had a very hard time holding the party together: Newt Gingrich had to face backlash that eventually led to his downfall, Dennis Hastert decided to resign, John Boehner was ousted by the far right, and Paul Ryan’s brand had a lot to suffer because of Trump.
DeSantis factor and Republican divide
Probably one of the best silver linings that came out of the midterm elections for Republicans was the victory of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Even if it seems way too early to say whether the Republican will become a presidential nominee for the 2024 national elections, his victory has definitely widened the possibilities for many presidential nominees.
Ron might have shown so far little public interest in his presidential nomination, but he’s still being projected as one of the top Republican presidential candidates. In fact, a recent poll proved that more voters would prefer DeSantis as the next 2024 Republican nominee.
