As time progresses, society evolves. It educates itself, learns from its mistakes, and turns out to be better than before. Politics is a great canon of society, and like all things civil, it is expected to improve with time. But we can’t say the same about American politics.

Although it becomes increasingly evident during politically intense times such as the frenzied elections or furious impeachment processes, the deterioration of the American political system is still out there for the world to see at all times.

The tension between opponent parties, the dangerous divisiveness, and increasing intolerance are only some of the components of the general deterioration of politics in America. What or who do your think is responsible?

The answer is obvious: Politicians. Americans have been electing surprisingly irrational people as their representatives, and it shows.

1. Donald Trump

When it comes to politicians known for their dumb ideas, Mr. Trump is the ultimate boss. One can only wonder how he amassed such a fortune with all of his illogical theories. Dumb luck, maybe?

With the countless crazy beliefs, the former US president is known to have, it is tough to pick the highlight. But what qualifies him as the most criticized American politician is his stance on climate change.

Although he never fully endorsed what science says about global warming and climate change, he has to this date tried to cover up this tweet after facing a great deal of backlash.

2. Joe Barton

For those who don’t know, Joe Barton represented Texas’s 6th district in the House of Representatives. He’s also headed a few government committees. However, it is only a wonder how someone of his intellect could perform the duties of such a job.

With a political career tainted with back-to-back sex scandals, Joe Barton is famous for having ‘unintelligent’ ideas.

One unintelligent idea that he’s renowned for is trying to oppose funding for wind energy projects claiming that wind is a “finite resource.”

Here’s what he said in 2010 – “Wouldn’t it be ironic if in the interest of global warming we mandated massive switches to wind energy, which is a finite resource, which slows the winds down, which causes the temperature to go up?”

3. Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz is one of the names that appear most often on headlines. This conservative Republican Senator also appears on the list of most loathed politicians in Washington.

His popularity, even among fellow Republicans, is summed up in Lindsey Graham’s remark about him “if you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.”

His idea that the Paris Climate Agreement is something that Parisians came up with or that the focus should be only on “Islamic terrorism” because Christians haven’t committed any terrorist attacks for hundreds of years speaks a lot about his intellect.

4. Rudy Giuliani

Rudy Giuliani, once known as America’s mayor, is no more of a respected American politician. Although his fall from grace had already begun because of his bizarre theories, he finally lost it when trying to win the case for Trump against Biden’s election to the presidential seat.

His latest bizarre theory accuses Dominion Voting Systems, a tech company that supplies voting machines for the US elections, of programming software that swung Trump’s votes over to Biden’s side. He went on to say that the tech company was closely related to Venezuela, and therefore China.

5. Joe Biden

Biden is a veteran American politician, and according to Obama, has dedicated his whole professional life to the service of the country. Not to mention he is the current president of the United States. But that does not provide him immunity from criticism, and as he admits, “I am a gaffe machine.”

The majority of Biden’s blunders have been “in-the-moment,” which can be forgiven as mistakes. But he has made some more ideological blunders too.

In 1975, Biden opposed desegregation busing by saying that, “a rejection of the entire black awareness concept, where black is beautiful, black culture should be studied; and the cultural awareness of the importance of their own identity, their own individuality.”

6. Todd Akin

A Republican Senate candidate from Missouri, Todd Akin, made the headlines when he passed an incredibly foolish remark about an incredibly sensitive matter.

In a 2012 interview, while opposing abortion, Akin said, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Whether it was just the phrase, ‘legitimate rape’ or his belief that victims rarely become pregnant from rape, he sure did attract a lot of criticism.

7. George W. Bush

The coining of the term Bushism originated from the more than frequent mispronunciations, unexpected statements, and the countless linguistic and logical errors observed when the former US president engaged in public speaking.

Although his vice president, Dick Cheney, was extremely loathed by the American people, he wasn’t much liked too. He is accused of severe misconduct during his presidency and even lying his country into war.

Among the countless Bushisms, some have drawn more criticism to Bush Junior. For instance, this one. “I’m the commander, see. I don’t need to explain—I do not need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting thing about being the President.

Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don’t feel like I owe anybody an explanation.”

8. Mike Pence

As the vice president under Donald Trump, Pence, although not as controversial, did share a lot of Trump’s crazy beliefs. As it happens, the Republican presidential duo shared the same stance on climate change.

“Global warming is a myth … The global warming treaty is a disaster.” This is what the former US vice president had to say on his own website in an op-ed. This is not all; he’s an accomplice to Trump in countless other illogical propaganda.

9. Sheila Jackson Lee

This politician, also from Texas, is also known as the meanest member of the House of representatives. Her disrespect towards her staff aside, she believes that the constitution of the United States is four centuries old.

Additionally, she also believes that Vietnam is still divided into North and South.

10. Hank Johnson

Last but not least, a member of the House of Representatives from Georgia, Hank Johnson, made the headlines as well as became meme content after his remarks about the island of Guam.

His weird belief can be seen as a childhood misunderstanding for not paying enough attention in the geography class. Apparently, this senior American politician believed that islands were just floating on the water.
