Experts instead argue that the real goal of Putin’s threats of a nuclear strike is merely a way to deter the U.S. and its NATO allies from direct involvement in the war he is waging in Ukraine. And so far it appears to be working as the Ukrainian forces have put up one hell of a fight and rumors circulating that Russian troops are beginning to lose hope as they suffer widespread casualties and losses.
While military aid and humanitarian has been pouring into Ukraine from Western nations since the war began, actual boots being on the ground is unlikely at this point as neither Biden nor the rest of the NATO community wishes to get into a conventional shooting war with Russia. However, as with any military tension, the war games have begun as experts begin to play out the many ‘what if’ scenarios.
