After Queen Elizabeth II’s peaceful death at her Balmoral Castle residence, King Charles III will become head of state of the Commonwealth realm. The Queen was 96 years old when she passed away, being the nation’s longest-reigning monarch.
Her reign beat even Queen Victoria’s, with seven years. In 2021, Barbados declared that it would be the latest country to remove the British head of state and finally become a republic. Other countries like Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and the Grenadines contemplate the same decision.
From this perspective, the future of the Commonwealth might look completely different from what Queen Elizabeth II got from her father in 1952.
