The raid also found a family video from bin Laden’s son Hamza bin Laden’s wedding in Iran. As Roggio said, “the only picture of Hamza before the video’s release was when he was a child. Hamza was being groomed for a leadership position, so to see him as an adult was extremely valuable.”
The wedding guest list proved to be useful because it included various members of al Qaeda’s inner circle. Hamza married the daughter of Aby Muhammad Al-Masri, which was another important al Qaeda leader, and some of their guests included Mohammed Showqi al-Islambouli, whose brother Khalid killed former Egyptian President Anwar-el Sadat. Hamza bin Laden was killed in 2019.
